Default License plate light problem

Has anyone had a problem with their license plate lights? Mine are out, and it doesn't seem to be due to a fuse or bad bulbs, but possibly some sort of bad connection between the contacts for the lightbulbs in the light assembly itself, or some other wiring problem. The only time theyve worked since I tried replacing them was once after I slammed the trunk. One of them came on, but when I opened and reclosed the trunk, sure enough, it went off again.

Unscrew the 2 plastic lenses. Sand or file the metal contacts.
Turn the parking lights on. Replace one of the lights making sure
it lights. Bend the metal as needed. Do the same for the other light.
Turn the lights off.

Mine blew a bulb and I replaced it. Had the same problem as you. Unplug the light and remove the whole assembly. get yourself some 600 grit sand paper and clean the contacts where the plug fits and also sand clean the contacts that hold the bulb. When its all cleaned up put the bulb back in and put the plug back on. turn on your parking lights and check to make sure its working. It should be working at that point if you cleaned it good enough. If not disassemble it and clean it right this time.

Good Luck...
