Default a little help......

alright, so here's the situation. i have a 96 2.8qm (a4), and i'm pretty sure both of my cats are junk (i don't think they're supposed to rattle when you hit them). i also am throwing a P0150, P0130, AND a P1408 codes.....what i'm wondering is if i get 2 new o2 sensors, a new egr temp sensor (if it's junk also), 2 HF cats (like these maybe? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Magna...3756.m20.l1116) and a new muffler like the magnaflow 14816, would this fix the codes and get my baby running like she should?

oh btw, which o2 sensor(s) should i get? thanks for the help

the 02 sensors are throwing the code so take them out and clean them with intake/throttle body cleaner and put them back in. clear the codes and see if they come back. if so, change the 02 sensors and clear the code. if the codes come back againm then change the cats. also, the P1408 is a EGR code according to the bentley manual. the 2.8 is a N/A car so no exhaust gas is recirculated. i have no idea why you have that code lol.

Almost all emissions-controlled cars have an EGR valve or something similar, even N/A.

but where would the EGR temp sensor on a 2.8 be? the only logical places to look for it is somewhere on the exhaust area right? all i've come up with is 4 02 sensors lol. i doubt the temp sensor is inside the block

Post-cat on 1996 and up; if they were pre-cat you could just delete the cat, pass emissions with a straight face, and call it a day.

there's 2 before and 2 right on the cat. the 2 in the cat you have to get under the car to see. the one before the cat on the passenger side is visible if you remove the airbox, the one on the driver's side is visible when you move the coolant reservoir tank. the steps i suggested is only so that you don't go spending hundreds on dollars on cats and still get the code and then finding out that only the 02 sensors were bad. you can do it your way and change the cats out right awaybut i to each his own lol

hiwords, are you sure they're before the cat? I thought emissions control got tighter around the mid/late 90s, and all O2 sensors were post-cat as a way to prevent people from straightpiping and still passing emissions.

You definitely have some post-cat too; I believe part of that emissions-control act allowed for mutliple O2 sensors
