96 A4 Quattro 2.8 Auto
I'm 99% sure my transmission is shot. From a stop, when in "D" the engine winds as if it's in neutral. I have to put it into "2" to get it going, then if I put it in "D" it's fine (drives like normal) until I come to a stop again.

There aren't any fault codes relating to the transmission. Is there anything else I may want to try before I order a transmission?

 

How many miles ? Could be your gear range switch but i don't know how to be sure without faults. Might be worth taking to the dealer (hate to say it) to be sure.

 

I was afraid that I may have to bring it in to confirm it's the transmission since I don't have any faults.
