Default Loud Nose upon Boost..sometimes

Lately, I've been having a very loud noise that rumbles the dash upon boosting 2-3k RPM that both myself and passenger says is coming from the driver's side in the engine compartment.
It ONLY happens sometimes when going up a hill, not all the time. As soon as I let off the accelerator, it will stop. If I hit the accelerator the same way while not on a hill, I only hear the typical turbo spool and no problem.

Anyone have any idea what it could be?
2001 1.8t A4 Auto Quattro.

My engine was replaced recently and I never had this problem before that.

Thanks!!

I never really let it keep making that noise to see if it was running rough. I always quickly took my foot off the gas so it would stop.

Why? what would that mean?

Bump...

There's no loss of power just a loud vibrating noise on the drivers side ( opposite side of the turbo) when the car is under load on hills--only sometimes though.

Any ideas?

If its a quattro, I wonder if the limited slip AWD discs in the transfer case are going out for some reason.

Next time it happens, I'll keep my foot on the gas and see if it stops after 3k.

How long has this been happening?
