Default Lower rear control arm & E brake cable

Need to do some bushings in the lower rear control arm. My friend Mr. Bentley says I have to completely remove the E Brake cable to fish it out through the arm (who came up with this design?). Do I have to remove the exhaust and the heat shield to get to the cables up under the center console? Do I have to drop the drive shaft too?

Undo it from the caliper's brake actuator, and then fish it through. No need to take it all the way off the car.

I tried that. There's a plastic grommet thing that goes all the way through the arm. The fitting at the end of the cable won't fit through that plastic thing.
