i guess that it all depends on what kind of driving you do. on my 2.8q i do short trips to school/work around 5 miles each way and i can never get more than 300miles from the tank. i usually get around 280miles. but on longer trips i get over the 300miles so if you mostly do city driving or short distance driving that your engine doesnt even warm up all the way, it seems right to me.

I commute 5 days a week, 32 mile round trip and I get about 22 - 24 mpg.

I can easily get 300+ miles out of a tank of gas if I'm just doing highway driving.

'96 2.8 quattro auto.

My average varies between 22-24, with about 50/50 city/highway driving. And I really do enjoy 2nd gear pulls .

16-21mpg would be about normal for all city driving. Your car is advertised 23 mpg city / 32 mpg hwy.. City would be a little less with an automatic.

99.5 1.8tqm
Before I just changed my MAF I was about 18-20 highway and less city. sometimes only getting 220-250 on city only driving. Since I changed my MAF and went on a 6hr highway drive I got about 380 on it and just got 340 on a city tank!

Well the MAF was changed due to idle issues. The cruddy idle caused my mpg to drop cuz I had to over rev to keep the car from stalling while stop and go! I have also recently (last month or two) Changed plugs and airfilter.
