Default My First A4?

Newbie here. I am looking at a 2000 1.8t avant quattro. It looks good and is a car that I have desired for some time. It's an auto and looks to have all the options. It has 110,000 miles on it. I sat in it today and it has some wear as a ten year old car that has hit the century mark should, but I still want it. Besides pushing all of the buttons and the easy visual stuff, what are the big things that I should look at, listen for, or have a good mechanic inspect. I don't think that the dealer has anything in terms of the maintenence history. We have a good shop in town that specializes in european cars, especially VAG product...no Audi dealerships. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

What kind of problems do the autos have?

Hard for anyone on the internet to advise you on this, you probably should get a good local mechanic to look at it.

Pull out the phone book, look for auto mechanics that specialize in german cars, call at least three of them, get a price to "fully inspect" a car you are considering buying. Take it to one. It might cost a couple hundred bucks, but save you a couple thousand if the car has serious issues.

https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=126429 The autos just arent as reliable, and have a tendancy to slip, they just arent nearly as reliable as a manual, and if they go bad its generally expensive (haha but so are many of the other repairs and parts).

I wish it was a manual. I really, really wish it was a manual. It's not. It's either this car or a Honda. Cut me some slack.

If you really wish it was a manual then wait for the right one to come around, youll kick yourself if you buy this one most likely, lots of money to be spending on something that you wont be able to change later. Not only are the autos not as reliable, but it sounds like you would strongly prefer a manual anyway.

I think everyone else is right, wait until you can find a manual. Did you try to search using crazedlist.org (multiple craigslist locations at once)?
