Default My First Audi

I just picked up a CHERRY 2001 1.8T A4 Quattro with the tiptronic transmission for my wife the other day and was wondering what some of the quirks of these cars are.

I have been a diesel guy all my life but have never owned a turbo gas engine before. I would assume that turbo timers exist for these cars, anyone have a good brand?

I'm a gauge guy, my truck has nine aftermarket gauges so I can monitor the engine and drivetrain. I intend on installing a boost gauge in the next few weeks. Do I need to get a combo vac/boost gauge? Also, what boost should I be seeing with a stock tune and what is the max psi for these turbos?

The car has 115k on it and the timing belt, water pump, valve cover gasket, wheel bearings and a few other things were just replaced in December. What are some of the other things that I should be on the look out for?

The car drives great. No shimmies, shakes, rattles, clunks or squeaks.

Thanks

Well, the FAQ thread is great. Tons of info there. I still have questions regarding the boost gauge and turbo timer though.

Maybe it's just me but the car seems like a real dog. My stock truck will out run the car. In my truck, you can really feel the turbo light but you really can't in the car.

The car seems to have great bottom end but 60-80mph takes forever!

I need to get a boost gauge on the car to see what's really going on. Any recommendations on gauges? What is the max boost I should be seeing with a stock tune?

Thanks

Start with a chip. GIAC, Unitronic, and APR are the most common developers for the 1.8T. You'll feel a bump in power and you'll also need to upgrade your DV.

O and lone star you should be seeing 8-10 psi stock. You can check www.ecstuning.com or www.awetuning.com for a boost gauge.

Have one fabbed up for you. An A4 exhaust is 2 1/4" from the header to the resonator and 2 1/2" from the resonator to the muffler. Do a resonator delete then buy a Magnaflow 14290 (?) muffler and have it replace the stock muffler.

Well then just get hi-flow cats. Conveniently enough, Magnaflow sells those too.
