Unfortunetly, the information display is a little messed up. The screen is hardly readable. But the PRD432 does not look lit up, only the gear I am presently in. I did scan for faults. I had two trouble codes. One was for lean fuel trim something like that, and the other was for gear ratio incorrect.

What are the code #s? "Incorrect gear ratio" can sometimes be traced back to a bad tc, but not always. With a lean fuel code as well, you could be looking at a load-sensing issue... vacuum leaks, MAF failing, etc.

The codes are P0171 & P0730. I plan to check the transmission fluid level today. I will let you know what I find.

I checked the fluid. It was low. I put 2 qts in, that was all I had on hand, it would have taken more. Took it for a test drive, and it shifted much better. It still had the whining sound. I also noticed that I leaked some fluid in the street when I accelerated up my street, which was up a hill. So I am hoping that the car has a transmission fluid leak, and the fluid has leaked out causing the trans problems. I have my fingers crossed!

I dont want to be too optimistic, but I am hopeful. You never know just how bad someone treats there car, or just how bad someone may be getting ripped off by a mechanic who is over charging for a small repair.

Did you use a VAGcom to check the temperature of the fluid before topping off?
