My new 1997 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8L
Hey man congrats on the purchase looks really nice
I have 1997 A4 2.8 Q my self and funny enough we have same laptop cases that sits on the back of my seat. haha It would be funny if you have HP in it too, but anyways
Looks like we have the same cars but looking at your pictures our steering wheels are different and our instrument clusters is different too like you have whole LCD on there for all the info and i only have little lights and you have heated seats and i dont.
How come our cars are same in everything just not in these features?

Good eye. Thats something I've never seen in a 97 before. But it's not a 99+ cluster because the #'s/font is the same as 96/97/98. Strange.
Thanks.
I had a couple of technical questions. I have 3 error messages after reading the "check engine light" memory.
This is what I remember, I have it more detailed at home:
1. Engine idle speed valve
2. Water temp sensor reading (something wrong)
3. Oxygen sensor
The car idles fine and gets reasonable MPG. So I don't know if these errors (1. and 3.) are actually true or old and have been fixed already.
About the water temperature, the arrow in the dash takes too long to get in the middle (between hot and cold). My old 6-cylinder car only took about 5 minutes... this Audi needs about 15 minutes or so.
Is it a defective thermostat or is it the sensor? Is the thermostat really behind the timing belt??? That would suck b**ls.
Is the oil temp sensor supposed to stay in the middle after driving for a while? Because mine stays at a quarter of the display.. at around 200 F. I believe that is a reasonable running temperature.
Other than that, the rear passenger wheel makes a loud grinding noise when I...
1. drive at 20+ mph or
2. brake at low speeds
I guessed it was the wheel bearing but could it also be a grinding break pad or something? I will take another look at it when I get home.
Ohh... before I forget. My 6 CD changer does NOT work and I wonder what it is. Its says "CD00 ERR" on the radio. The unit does not operate at all and nothing works when I push the eject button.
Regards,
Ric

I have a clean and detailed carfax... doubt there was an accident. Maybe an electrical failure?
I also have all maintenance records since 97. When you say it's not original, I bet the exchange is in there somewhere... but there are lot of pages to go through.
Btw, right rear wheel bearing is getting replaced right now for $308. I asked him to reset the CEL to see if something new comes up that is legit.
