I have a 97 1.8 Quattro. What do i need to do for my oil change? I know i need synthetic and a German filter, anything more specific?

You don't need synthetic.

don't necessarily need a "German" filter, just one that doesn't suck. 5W-40 and a nice filter will do

if your motor is in pretty good shape you could get away with a blend, but make sure you change it every 3k. You can just go to AutoZone and get a filter designed for your motor, just don't cheap out

knowing the sludge issues with audi's why would you guys tell him not to use synthetic oil?

op: use a good synthetic oil, not mobile, not royal purple, 0-40, 0-30, 5-30 and a good filter... like cca said change it every 3-4k(at most).... if this is your dd... i know people say you can wait 5-10k.... they are playing with fire

I was just sayin that if his motor is in good shape and cost is an issue, you can get away with a blend as long as you change it religiously every 3k. I use Mobil-1 full syn and change it every 3k

he has a '97... the motor isn't in good shape....lol

and mobile 1 is not a true synthetic... you realize that right, it is catagory 3... to be a true syn you have to be cat 4 or better

they still say syn, cause they do fit the syn classification, but not like penzoil or the other cat 4 oils, i used it in my car this time, but it was right after my turbo upgrade, next time will not be mobile

LOL hey! easy on the 97's

I didn't realize "Mobile-1 Full Synthetic" didn't count as a synthetic, I'll have to look into it a little more. I've been thinking about switching to one of those "high mileage" synthetics like Castrol, whatcha know about them?
