i am going to be recieving a 2001 audi A4 quattro and i have some questions, but first some overall info on the car. it has over 100k miles on it (dont have the exact number, it was my sister old car) it has an automatic transmission and hasnt been treated all that great since 2001. im looking to use this car for both track days and rally events.

questions:

1. i want to put a 5 speed manual tranny in the car, what do i have to buy besides the obvious a manual tranny? are the rear end gears the same also? will the ECU throw a code without the auto trans?

2. am i going to need new bolts for the transmission?

3. will i need a new drive shaft and front axle?

4. can the stock tranny hold stage two power outputs? and survive launches?
5. are there kits that include the 5spd, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate? if so are there any that you would recommend?

 

tranny swap would cost as much as the car is worth. So trade it in if you really want a manual

Trade it in and buy a 97-99.5 1.8t and then use the extra money for mods.

 

i dont really want to sell the car, it was free and just want to use it as my first race car/ my first car build. i really want to put this 5spd in so any help on parts needed or parts to be replaced, please help me with swap!!

Im going to dumb this down for you....

The car has value, take that value and trade the car in for a manual 1.8t. Sure you may have to pay some money, but your going to pay far more for a trans swap and the car is going to be down for probably weeks.

dumbed down further....

trans = $1-2k
ecu - $300
mounts $200
labor - $1k+
interior pieces $200-500
and **** load of misc $300-1k

Im sure you can get another a4 for far less than that and have it withen a day. So if you want to **** money away and possible ruin the car, then swap the tranny. If you want to be smart and not laughed at, trade the car in
