Unhappy Need to Leave Car Sitting for 3 Months, Maybe More

I will be deploying to Iraq for at least 90 days starting this friday. I've never had to leave a car sitting for that long. So my question is, what needs to be done to it while I'm gone? and how often does it need to be done? I'm guessing it'll need to be at least started every now and then, but how often? Is there anything else that my roommate should do for my car while i'm gone?

First of all, I'd change the oil and filter just before you go. As long as the car is started up every couple of weeks and taken around the block or so - just to get it up to temp - I don't think you'll have any trouble. I live in New England and don't drive my S4 too much in the winter so that's what I do.
I would fill the tank too before you go. I think a little gas left in the tank would go bad quicker than a full tank (that's my thought, anyway).

Good luck over there, Man.

no don't fill the whole tank. gas sitting there will separate into alcohol and water. you dont' want that. 1/4 tank with a bottle of gasline antifreeze should do the trick. in reality, you don't really need it cuz it's only 3 months but def don't fill the whole tank. besides wut elevatorguy said about the oil, that's about it. o and make sure all the windows are closed lol.

Or you could drain it, throw it up on blocks, put some dryer sheets in the interior, throw some Stabil in the tank, and put a car cover over it and not have to worry about your roommate doing anything but checking it once in a while to make sure rodents haven't inhabited it.

i also don't drive my a4 much in the winter time i just go out and start it once a week and take it out for a little drive when the weather isn't crappy. while it is sitting i hook up a battery charger and leave it on trickle charge.

I'd go with what airguard said, but that's mostly because my roommate can't drive a stick and my brother would go joyriding in my car all the time. I guess I'm a little overprotective.

And what are you doing over there for only 90 days? Whatever it is, be careful.

Thats all you really need to do. Should even start right up when you get back and reconnect. Dump in some fuel stabilizer when you get back and go to the gas station and top it off with some fresh. Good luck man.
