New brake pads, caliper, rotor estimate
I have a 1997 2.8 A4 Quattro. Recently noticed a grinding sound coming from my right rear wheel area. Took it to a local guy who told me the caliper was frozen. Said I needed a new caliper, rotor, and pads on the right rear brakes. He's also going to do a brake fluid flush for me.
Estimate is $750 (tax, labor, parts included).
Reasonable?? (Not that I really have a choice now, just for peace of mind).
Not sure what brand the parts are. Any comments would be appreciated.

RE: New brake pads, caliper, rotor estimate
I think thats a little high. I was quoted under $700 to do all four rotors and pads(not that I would pay to have it done). But I don't know how much a caliper is or how hard it would be to deal with one that is stuck. You can pick up a full set of Brembo's and Mitex pads on ebay for $275/shipped this week.
just searched at autohausaz.com and a rear caliper is $105.83 with free shipping.
Maybe you should look into doing this job yourself and just do the whole car, or at least both rears(meaning rotors and pads not both calipers)

Is he sure its not the ebrake? That was a common problem. If you do need a new rear caliper, you need to replace both. Its like tires, you need to replace both sides so you dont pull to one side. It is an easy fix if you have any mech ability also.
