Default new guy with questions!

Greetings all! This forum is great.

I'm looking at and considering buying a '98 A4 Quattro V6. It's relatively clean, appears to be in good condition, and is said to have had all routine maintenance done. It has 144k miles on it and the timing belt has been replaced once (as far as I know about).

I'll have my mechanic check it out (I practice medicine... and am not smart enough to do mechanical work!) in order to determine if there are any major flaws.

Can y'all offer insight and words of wisdom and experience for a fellow looking at and considering a rig like this?

144K seems kind of high for only having the timing belt done once. If you do get the car, I would do it or have it done just so you know when it was done and you have the reassurance that its not gonna fail. I also have a 98 v6...and to be honest, I have no complaints. small problems now and then, but a very reliable car overall. I would have ur mechanic check it out and look for any major problems. I've had mine for 3 years and it has 137K miles on it. i've had to change a few wheel bearings, CV joints, stuff like that. no huge repairs.

how much you paying for the car? is it worth it for the mileage?

Welcome to the forums.

If you're planning to do some modifications, the 1.8T engine would be a better choice as there are more aftermarket parts available for these engines. Although some have said the 1.8T isn't as reliable as the V6.

Good luck and keep us updated!
