new transmission

So im looking at a couple used transmissions to buy for my 98 2.8 mt quattro
and i wanna know if the transmissions need to be the same or not?
as in the same year, code, and all that good stuff

yeah,the code is the most imported,i did mine like three years ago,good luck,find out with is better get it rebuilt or getting another transmission

as long as it has an 01A bell housing it will fit. im pretty sure everything between 97-01 will fit. 2.8 transmissions have longer gears then 1.8t, but other then that the 1.8t trans will also fit in your car.
