Default No chime

The car did not have a chime (light on warning, key in ignition warning, etc) when we got it.
I would like to activate it again.

What is the likely cause of 'no chime'?
Fuse?
Bad 'speaker'?
Or someone pulled the wires off?

What happens when you output test the cluster with a vag com, do you get a chime then? If not Id say your problem is somewhere within the cluster (a bad or disconnected speaker). If you do get a chime I would think its either a bad drivers door switch or wiring between there and the cluster, or between the cluster and central locking, whichever signals the drivers door to be open. Are you missing both the chime AND the lights on alarm?

There is an option to turn off the chime with vag-com likely your PO just turned it off... I'll look and see if I can find how to undo it

No chime with VAGcom instrument output test.
No chime door or light.

Is the speaker on the instrument cluster?

The PO (and POS) was more the 'rip out' type of guy (this dealer sold the car to the lady I bought it from ("no CEL, no lights, every thing tip top") only for me to later find out that he had removed the bulbs (CEL, Airbag, ABS. You name it). So I don't think he used VAGcom.

If the chime does not sound during the output test Vagcom, this should eliminated door switches, etc., right?

Yeah should pretty much eliminate that, if he was a "rip out" type of guy Id say he ripped out the chime, especially if the same speaker used for the chime is also used for the warning beep...

Where is the chime physically located?
On the instrument cluster or under the dash, driver side kickpanel area?
How does it look?

Its within the cluster, but thats all I know.. I would expect it to be a small black cylinder with a small hole in the middle, with a gold color visible in the hole. Or it could look like your average speaker too.
