Default Oil Filter question

Hey all,

Just got an Audi A4 1.8T (1998) recently and this site has helped me greatly. I've been looking at the airbox mods you all have done and I'm thinking I may do it, but I'm weary of snow/water getting in. But that's not my point.

I changed the oil this morning and used the FRAM PH3569 (as directed by the computer at AutoZone) and I'm worried it won't be sufficient. Is it ok? Or do I need to have an OEM filter like the one that was in it when I got it. The previous owner had the oil changed at an Audi dealer.

One more question, what K&N Air Filter should I pick up and any recommendations on a place to get one for a solid price?

The fram doesnt filter as well as others. You just need to make sure you have the large filter also. The airbox mod is fine in the wet. its hard for the water to get that high.

What do you recommend as a filter then? Sorry, I searched before and nothing came up but now I see "related threads" so I can just read those

Thanks again. I guess I'll just have to eat the cost of Oil + Filter on this one. The AutoZone I went to looked up the part # and had the filters in a back room so I wasn't able to peruse them and find the larger one that I was told to get.

as far as oil... I used 5w-30 royal purple... not to sure if that oil weight is recommended because everyone mostly uses 5w-40

0/40 or 5/40 synthetic is recommended.

As for filters, you can pick up either OEM Mann or Bosch large filters on the web for about 5 dollars.

There are a handful of approved 0w30 and 5w30 oils. Royal purple is not on that list but many have used it with good results for years. Its fine to use.
