Default over heating

i just got an audi a4 1.8t. i love this car
but the engine gets really hot really fast. and stays really hot for a long time also the temperature gauge doesnt work. what could be a source of all the heat and how can that be fixed as well as the gauge?

Water pump, thermostat, and/or engine coolant temperature sensor are common issues with 1.8Ts.

How do you know that the engine gets really hot if the temp. gauge doesn't work?

The engines themselves run pretty hot in general, so the diagnosis might not be correct. Has it leaked any coolant? That will be a pretty tell tale sign that the H20 pump is leaking and could be the culprit. You should replace the coolant thermostat so that you can see how hot it is actually running.

we can't help it because our cars are HOT!

as long as temp gauge does not pass the 1/2 way, then you're ok.

go to the loca dealer and buy a temp sensor. It is dead cheap! Don't risk it.

Fix the temp gauge as see how it's actually running. Stop driving it until you do.
