Default p0410

I bought a 2001 a4, 1.8t last Saturday. And I've never had so much fun driving a car! I love everything about the car - the tipomatic (dont really need it, but fun nonetheless), the extra-bright headlights, the toolkit in the trunk, the turbo, and especially the Quattro in the snow! (didnt slip once last weekend!) But . . .

Through out the last 12 days the cel keeps coming on. Always a p0410, which the seller/dealer (not an audi dealer) tells me is a bank 1 o2 sensor (pre-cat). That's not quite the description that I find on these forums - but it seems close enough to be reasonable.

1. So, the bosch sensor is $67. The bosch sensor and full cable/connector is $159. How important is it to replace the cable/connector vs splicing in the new sensor? (The sensors are in stock, the cables are not, and I've checked several places! The local price seems to be inline with oem mail-order).

2. The first time we reset the error code, I probably drove 30 or more miles before the light came back on. Each time we reset the cel, it comes back on sooner and sooner - now less than 5 miles. Does this sound like a bad sensor - or is something else going on that the sensor is correctly identifing as a problem?

I'm thinking that the cheapest, fastest, and most practical step is to replace the o2 sensor (splice) and see what happens. But if people have had experience with cables failing then we'll order a cable.

Thanks for sharing your expertise and experiences.
