Passenger side window problem

Hello all, my 1998 Audi A4 passenger side window won't roll up all the way. It stops about halfway up. Sometimes it will start to go up further then stop and back down to the same spot, other times it doesn't move at all, during these times I can't hear the motor or anything working it's just dead. The window won't roll down either, it's just stuck at the halfway up place. I'm thinking it's the window regulator but I'm not positive. Any help is appreciated.

I apologized in advance if this has been previously posted.

To me, it sounds like the pinch protection is overreacting.

If the window regulator clip was broken, the window would not roll up, regardless if the motor is working or not. I had the problem before, forcing me to buy new clips.

I think there may be a malfunction with the motor. I don't know about the pinch protection but perhaps that also has some influence on your problem.

Thanks, anyone now how to reset the pinch protection. If that's not it then I'll pull the panel this weekend and see what I can see from there. Big pain not knowing exactly what wrong.

It's not "pinch protection." Your regulators are busted. Pull the door panel and you'll see pieces of green plastic inside.

Thanks, I'll pull the panels tonight.

As said, expect to see green plastic chunks in the bottom of the door. The OE clips were made of a plasic that either was brittle, or becomes that way in time. You can buy aftermarket clips off Ebay, which seem to be made from a tougher grade of plastic. The only problem I've had with those is the injection molding quality left something to be desired, so to get the swedged-on cable "bead" to fit, a little Xacto knife treatment is required.

Thanks, can anyone tell me why the front regulators look so much different from the rear regulators? front looks like something out of SYFY movie while the rear looks like somehting that belongs in a car.

Just one other thing because I'm a little anal. The passanger side rear is the right rear correct. I know when you're talking about the engine the passanger side of the motor is actually the left side of the engine.

Try to not mix up left and right when you are talking about interior parts.

For example it should be Front driver side, Rear driver side. Front passenger side, Rear passenger side.

No need to say left or right.
