Default please help-Changed breather tube now oil leak?

I just changed the breather tube section on top of the engine of my 99 2.8. I drove less than 15 minutes yesterday and was getting engine smoke from the firewall area. This morning I find a puddle under my car.

I don't see any leaks up top. Is it possible that something came loose below that's the source of the leak? Or do u thing this is coincidental?

Thanks in advance

It is possible that having a broken breather tube was letting the crankcase pressure escape. Once the tube was replaced it is possible for any weak seals or gaskets to start leaking at this time.
It is possible the crankcase vent valve could be clogged causing excessive crankcase pressure.

That's the shitty thing about older cars. Haha you try to fix one issue, and three new ones pop up. Like M5S5 stated, the now pressurized crank case could have caused an older gasket to go. Best thing to do is start searching for more than normal oil spots on the engine with a good flashlight and try to follow it to the source. Keep us posted !

Default Front crank seal

Well, I had to take it in because I don't have time to investigate now, i have no garage, and it's winter!

I was told that the front crank seal was leaking. That was an understatement. From what I could see some seal not only was leaking but sh*t itself, started throwing up oil, and then disintegrated.

Anyway, I think this sounds inline with m5s5's theory.

Does it sound out of line or right to you(all)?

Thanks!

No , but i would also check the cam seals as well as the timing chain tensioner seal & gasket.

Default crank seal aka ?

Thanks for the heads up on the other seals. The timing was done about 3 years ago but I'll definitely ask him about that.

I was curious and searched ECS for "crank seal" and variants but didn't come up with anything. Is the front crank seal called something else?

ugh, nevermind. I just found crank shaft seal, duh.

Do you think this is something I should take up with the shop that did my timing or has it been long enough that they can legitimately tell me to take a hike?

AAAAAAAND it's done.

I got her back today and the post mortem is that there was that there was a catastrophic failure of my front crank seal.

Those weren't his words but he did say he couldn't believe it and that the seal wasn't even seated, which was why oil was gushing out. Also of course the tb was oil soaked so I had to get a new one of those.

Thanks for the input gang!
