Angry please verify... multiple icm failures

Ok i'm i little stumped on this one. When we bought the a4 the ignition control module was bad and wouldn't fire 2 cylinders. We replaced it a all was good. now we just finished rebuilding the top half and when we put it all together the icm was bad again... less then a month later. it was all good so we finished putting the exhaust on. Not even 24 hours later it went out and although firing all 4 cylinders the nnumber 1 has a VERY weak spark even with new plugs and coils. Is the icm a known issue or are we just having bad luck? Is there an alternative part? One of the coils was cracked before we replaced the icm the last time.. could have caused the failure? It has been replaced however.

icm and coils are known issues with audi's even known to be bad right from the dealer.... there is a diy on getting rid of the icm... making it like a newer model.... and the 98 tends to have good coils....

A bad coil can kill an ICM, from what I've read. But if you can ditch the ICM then go for it.

It's a bit involved of a project judging from that first link I posted. If/when my ICM dies there's no doubt it will be replaced with individual coil packs.
