Is it possible to put a 30valve in a 12 valve car?

 Does anyone know if it is possible to put a 30 valve engine into a 12 valve 1996 Audi A4, without changing much else? I was shopping for used engines, but someone on this forum mentioned I could swap. The last six of my vin are 055573.

i think thats a OBD 1 to OBD 2 swap. won't be the easiest, not sure what you'd have to change, but i'm sure it'd bolt right up

What does OBD mean?
So what would I have to change?

Nope, mine is vin 000574 and a 1996. It has ODBII, so obviously the OPs newer one does.

I imagine you'd need a new ECU and a few bits and pieces from a 30v wiring harness, but as far as swaps go I can only assume this would be one of the easier ones

they are both OBD II. you'd need engine, exhaust mani, accessories, ECU and harness. mounts are in the same place and same size. unless you can find everything for cheap and do the work yourself, might as well sell the car and buy one with a 30V

anyone who has completed the conversion?

I just spoke to a mechanic. It is very costly to change to the 30 valve. It is a totally different platform.

If doing a motor swap do it to something useful imho!

maybe try looking for a 2.8 from an older 80 or 90, pretty sure those had the same 12v V6

Revuild the 12v, those are like the Civics of our cars, they will run for ages
