Default Power Steering

Fluid level is normal (hot/cold). Steering is good, no lack of power-assist. Just makes that whining noise we all know of. Car now has 129K miles.I never changed the fluid nor do I know when it was last changed.

Is this as simple asflush/change the fluid
Or is the pump NFG?

TIA

First off, where do you live because generally in very cold weather your P.S. will whine regardless of fluid levels/ fluid age. Mine always does and I have brand new fluids it goes away as my car warms up too.

the pump was making noise since Sept. Then I didnt drive the car for 6 months. At this point, it's not temp related and doesnt go away as the fluid heats up with normal driving.

Could it be the fluid is broken down?

I wouldn't worry if the noise is at or close to full lock. But if its there when just slightly turning the wheel then its probably a failing pump.
