Default Put the TestPipe back on?

Heres the deal..
I'm replacing my trans right now, and wondering if I should put the testpipe back on while the trans is out.

But here is the thing..
1) I hated the sound of the exhaust with the test pipe on. Does anyone else hate the sound and the "pop, pop!"? But it could have been a broken downpipe.

2)I hate having a CEL on my dash, and I've tried the fouler mod.. I saw there was an "angle mod" I could try or I was thinking about drilling a very small air hole in the side of one of the foulers.

3)The car needs to be inspected the day I get it fixed, (I'm in NJ they just look for CEL) Think I can make it 10 miles to the inspection station before she throws a CEL?

4)I didn't notice much on the butt dyno that I can remember.

...So I'm looking for opinions... What are the real horsepower gains/benifits with running a test pipe? (less lag, lower temps?) And is it really worth it?

Mods are..
1999.5 1.8t 5spd
K04
giac PC-16
FMIC
Borla exhaust
Samco hoses
DV
Injectors
High flow intake filter

*when I had the testpipe installed before I didn't have the PC-16 file, just the regs giac.. and I didn't have the FMIC*
