Default Question about Rear fog lights (2001 b5 facelift)

So last week I was pulling out of the driveway on my way to class and, like I always do, I turned on both the front and rear fog lights before I left (It's a 7:20am physics class..the only class on campus that starts that early, so headlights are a must in the morning). I got to school and parked the car. Some girl ran up to the car as I locked it and told me my tail light was out. 10 minutes later as I was getting off the shuttle bus, my mom calls me to say the same thing. So I took a drive over to Pep Boys later that day and bought a pack of 7506 bulbs. I took the tail light assembly apart in the parking lot tried to find the burnt bulb...which ended up being none of them. However, when I turned on the rear fogs I noticed that only the driver's side one was lit. There was not even a socket where the passenger side bulb should go. Furthermore, there were small pieces of plastic blocking a 7506 sized bulb from fitting there.

Then I found this tonight:

So what gives? Am I just going crazy or did Audi only install one rear fog light? Doesn't make sense to me, unless they want to help the local precinct fund their next Christmas party with my tickets.

That is how ALL rear fog lights are. It must be a European thing. I think the reason they do that is so that people know that it is a fog light and not a brake light. People in the US just aren't used to them so they think a bulb is out. I would not use it on a regular basis because there is no need for it. The only time I use it is in extreme snow storms or very dense fog.

I think the dual fog light mod is very dangerous and reckless to do. It makes it seem as if you had the brake pedal pressed. Imagine driving through some dense fog or heavy rain, some douchebag decides to turn his rear fog lights on, you think he's breaking hard and you end up braking and cause an accident. Maybe this is a little extreme example, but you get my point.

I agree, they use a single bulb for a reason! The double bulb mod is dangerous and unnecessary. Again, the rear fog isn't really intended to be used very often. I think I use mine maybe a dozen times a year and I live in a state that gets tons of snow. It has to be near zero visibility before I will turn it on.

majority of cars in Europe have 2 fogs but then manufactures only but one in there cars , there is no pattern to it,

liking the easy conversion ill be certainly doing it to mine

i suggest keeping them off. a cop pulled me over thinking i had a brake light out. i then realized this, turned it off, and he let me off. never turned on the rear fogs ever again
