Default Question before purchase

Hey guys new to the forum and had a few questions before i made a decision on buying the car.

I have been looking at a 1997 audi a4 quattro 5 speed with 110k on it. Now i have done my research and read this car has alot of problems as well as alot of positive reviews.

The dealer has done alot of major maintenance on the car and provides a carfax.

I just wanted to come to the experts before making the decision to sign them papers.

Thanks!

All German cars require car and feeding. They are a fun drive, but they aren't a Corolla when it comes to reliability.

I'd avoid any B5 sold by a dealer unless it's a pristine example. These cars are old enough now that dealers rarely buy them at auction, so most likely it was a trade in. If it is a trade in and they did a lot of work, that likely means that was the bare minimum needed to get the car saleable because they don't want to spend tons of money fixing a trade it, they just want to get rid of it. You can imagine why it would be a good idea to avoid cars like this.
