I am also getting a higher voltage reading on Cylinder 2. I have switched the ignition coils around and Cylinder 2 always misfires. I havn't done a compression test on it yet. Autozone didnt have one today. Anyone think of why I keep misfiring? Also the misfiring happens more when at idle then when driving. |
Unplug your maf and see if the symptoms disappear.
Stupid question but where is the maf. I know cars but not this new.
on top of the airbox. There is a seal that you pull out to expose the connector for the maf. Be careful, it's delicate stuff.
Okay I will try right now and clear the codes and run it to see if that fixes it. Anything else you want to add that could be causing this. I can also send you the misfire log I did earlier today.
If it's not the coils or the plugs, you don't have an ICM, so the maf is the next likely thing to cause misfires w/lean codes like you have.
Okay I am so confused where to unplug. Is close to the throttle body or by the passenger headlight?? I did unplug the 4pin cable on the throttle body. Closest to me. Car would not start without that. Tried the one by the headlight on top of the air box. After I did that the car would start but was misfiring like crazy and CEL was flashin. I could take pics and show you what I unplugged.
NVM, I found it. I didnt know it was in the black box under the big rubber grommet. I didnt clear the codes but it doesnt seem to misfire/shake as much if at all. I did break the clip that connects to the maf, it will still connect but wont lock. Is that going to be an issue if the maf is the cause of the misfiring and needs to be replaced? (The clip for the maf)
Yeah the black box is the airbox. If symptoms clear up with the maf unplugged I'd replace the maf. You can try cleaning the element inside the maf housing, but that rarely works. You should clear the codes and then start the engine with the maf unplugged, even drive it around the block a couple times and see what happens. The maf plug should stay plugged in without that clip that broke off. Told ya to be careful!
I didnt know how to take the clip off and ended up snapping it. I ran it unplugged with the codes cleared. Did not get a CEL yet. It feels like its misfiring and the computer says it is but no where near the amount it was before. I get a random in Cylinder 1 sometimes. Cylinder 2 is still misfiring though. Going to get a compression tester tomorrow. But I do believe that was the cause of the issues. Cause it runs better now. Oh whats the torque spec for spark plugs. I heard if you dont tighten them enough it can throw misfire codes. I know I didnt over tighten them cause I never do. I stripped one out on my Integra and it was a nightmare to fix it so I dont over tighten anymore.
