Default Rattling noise in front left...

Hey guys,

So I have this rattling noise coming from the front left side of my car. I recently changed the the upper and lower control arms on that side, along with the cv boot and the brake line...After I had changed all that stuff the noise was gone. About 2 weeks after I changed the parts the noise came back. It is coming from the front left wheel area and it sounds like something is rattling, like a piece of metal is loose or something... It only happens when I go over a bump, tho the slightest bump will set it off.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have the same problem on both sides. I only hear it when driving slow over bumps. I really don't want to buy a whole control arm kit if I don't have to. I'm assuming it's the strut mounts too. This seems to be a common problem with these cars.

Is it a hollow clunking? I've got a similar noise in my passenger rear.

Yeah I only hear it at slow speeds. A4_2000 I can tell you I doubt its the control arms because I just re-did all of mine and the noise came back. I wouldnt say a hollow clunk, really more of a rattle, quite bizarre.

The consensus seems to be upper strut mount, what exactly is that? I removed the entire strut assembly when doing my control arms. Is it the top part of the assembly? I'm assuming I would have to compress the spring etc etc to change that?

check your inner brake pad before you spend any money. if it's loose it'll rattle

I'm having the same rattling on both sides. I think it is the sway bar links/bushings. What did yours look like Nevalite? I hadn't thought about the strut mounts, though. Good thing I'm about to replace them already.

Audacity, I think the upper strut mounts bolt to the body and the top shock mounts bolt to those.

Is there even a rear upper strut mount? It sounds like a hollow thonking. Clunk, clunkclunk clunk.
