Rear Differential Clunk
The rear differential on my 2001 1.8tqm "clunks/thuds" everytime I shift. If you put it in gear and release the clutch fast right up to the engagement point, you can really hear and feel it. This is extremely irritating. Any ideas?

Very normal. This is caused by the very front of the diff jumping up and hitting the frame. The thud can be heard just behind the driver.
You can get rid of that thud by installing a Stern Power ring around the OEM rear diff mount or going with a Apikol Rear diff mount that replaces the whole OEM part. Stern Power Ring http://www.ringer-racing.com/images/ST-B5-DMT02_dp.jpg It installed on the OEM rear diff mount. http://www.ringer-racing.com/images/ST-B5-DMT02_fs.jpg Apikol B5 Rear Diff Mount http://www.ringer-racing.com/images/A07A0230S.jpg |
Are there any DIY for this?

Any luck with these clunks? I'm unfortunately having the same issue with a lot of the same symptoms occurring.
