replacing the lame car phone plug for a usb one?
 

has anyone ever tried this? i am thinking that replacing the phone adapter in the center console for a usb port would allow for an ipod or something without having to go through a lot of grief and rewiring.
thoughts?

I was thinking the same thing so I would be able to charge my headset there.

is there always power to that thing?

I'd say its at least worth a shot, seems like it should at least work for power if nothing else

can you show a pic of that phone adapter thing? i cant find it in my car LOL where exactly is it located?

Its on the hinge of the center console.

Well mine is a pre-99 and Ive got it.

i will have to check, but i dont think that i have it
when i bought the car the dealer told me that the arm rest was replaced cuz it was cracked or something. maybe the new one didnt come with the phone plug anymore

well, as for newer cars, i have a 99.5 and it has it. will be working on the adapter this week. i have a trip planned for tomorrow, and prefer for most of my car to be in one piece for these things ;)
