Replacing Oil Pan
How hard is it to replace the oil pan on a 1.8T? I cracked mine tonight and was curious about how involved the replacement process would be since I have never replaced an oil pan. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

What's the extent of your mechanical knowledge?
You'll need to lift the engine (just lift, not remove), unbolt the subframe. You'll also have to remove/install bolts in hard to reach places, and move your core support out of the way.
Access to a lift makes it a lot easier, but it can be done without one. You'll probably need a few jacks too, if you cant find a better way to support the engine. Obviously you can't support it by the oil pan for this job, lol. Be very careful where you support the engine though, you don't want to put stress on anything you're not supposed to.
This job is a little bit of a PITA, and will take at least a couple full days of labor for the novice mechanic.

Lol, about a week. I could only work on it a couple hours a day, plus learning takes a while. It's always much faster if you've done it before. As an inexperienced mechanic it took me about 10 to 15 hours total to replace.

lol when i first got my audi i had to replace the main bearings. i lifted the engine up using some old hymnals and a bottle jack. then i proceded to unbolt the pan. dnopped the oil pump in the pan and fudged it out after about 2 hours of prying. lol never removed the supports or anything. just the front mount. lol it was most definetly not the safest or easiest way ha ha
