The right chip
Hey what's up guys, I just joined this thing, and I was reading some interesting things about B5s. I'm just a beginner, and I don't know much about them, but I was thinking the first step in mods be a chip, I know GIAC, and Revo, Apr, etc.. are like the top, but they are expensive,But I saw some good offers on Inmotion chips, can anyone give me some advice on what I should get, or If I should start with something else rather than a chip, because I'm all stock now, and also I have around $250 to spent, which is like how much the inmotion chip is. Thanks
definitely start with a chip, and get a dv/bov to go along with it. there are no dyno's of inmotion or speedtuning (same thing as inmotion but with better customer support) so you can't say for sure how they compare to the big companies. also you'll have to mail them your ECU so you wont be able to drive your car for a few days. but so far people are happy with them, i would get speedtuning over inmotion tho

GIAC and APR are a better quality chip though, it's worth saving your money for. $500 for 30-40chp, try to find any other mod besides nitrous that will make that much hp for that cheap.
a new dv/bov will cost you another $80-120 so you'll have to save regardless.

yeah be careful with speedtuning though. a lot of people have had good experiences, but im just lettin you kno i got a bogus chip. i was without the car for 3 days and got it back with less power then i started. i would suggest just saving, im saving for a unitronics chip, which ive heard has some really good BT files for the future.
Ok, I saw Inmotion on ebay for about 225 with free shipping, but it sucks because I need my car like every day, and I can't wait for the ECU like a week. Is there an option of like buying the chip and installing it in the ECU somehow? Because in here http://cgi.ebay.com/Performance-mod-...QQcmdZViewItem nobody talks about removing the ECU. There's 2 different sellers on Ebay selling Inmotion, and one of them requires the ECU shipped, but I'm not sure about this one. Can you guys tell me what's the right stuff, or should I just forget about the savings and fet Giac??? I don't wanna end up spending money for something bogus... 10X
I bought a used ecu for $125 (out of a 1.8T Passat with a similar part # ecu),tried it inmy car, and itworked. Then I sent the Passat ECU to Speedtuning in Maryland to have itflashed/chipped, while I was still able todrivemy car with its original ecu. I gotthe Passatecu back in the mail, installedit, and ithas been excellent. absolutely no problems withmy speedtuning flash at all, and plenty of extra power and torque thati can feel (no dyno yet - dyno feesprobably cost more than the chip, so what'sthe point?). Your car has to be in good mechanical operating condition before you chip it, otherwisethe increasedboostmayaggrevate littleproblems and cause boost leaks that you do not/may nothave the ability to troubleshoot and blame it on the chip as being at fault (with no solid proof of that yet either, 01afour). I alsosuggest you get a boost gauge and install it, and get used to how your turbo boosts now, in PSI #'s on the hills, on the highway, etc... beforesending out your ecu. Also have a newpiston style diverter valvebought and installed (will take 10 minutes to install yourself, and no special tools req'd). I have had good performance from forge 007Pdv from www.ecstuning.com and it has a lifetime warrantee.
My audi is 99.5, Do you guys know how much it would cost to get GIAC, with the instalation ofcourse? And is therea GIAC dealer around Chicago? And can I settle for something less than the forge 007, because it's kind of expensive $135 or $145? Also do I need the different Springs? And also, when I look at the DV's, how much pressure should I look at, or I don't need to worry about that if I get the springs. Thanks. btw all the replies have been really helpful...
