Hi there. Today I decided to tackle my CV joints. I'm replacing both of them, and the whole joints not just the boots. I ordered my joints from Rockauto. They both came in the same packaging, and neither was labeled for passenger or driver side. Both came with a new Hub bolt (though one is Allen and the other is 27mm), but only one came with grease and new 12 point bolts. Now, the strangest part for me is that they are slightly different lengths. I took off my drivers side CV today and compared it with the two. It was the same length as the shorter of the two CV's that rockauto sent me. I plan on putting the new CV on the drivers side tomorrow, and tackling the passenger side if time permits. Before I go about taking the passenger side apart though, I want to confirm that they are supposed to be slightly different sizes. I really don't want to pull out the old CV joint to find out that rockauto sent me the wrong size, put everything back together and wait for a new one.

So, recap: Is the passenger CV joint supposed to be slightly longer than the driver side? I'm talking a matter of only an inch or so.

Edit: my car is MANUAL not automatic.

 

I think passenger side is much lager then drivers side. B5 and b6 are pretty similar interior and underbody wise. DIY: front CV axle replacement
