Ripped CV Boot and Clicking: Replace Axle or Just Boot?
 

I've got a 2001 A4 2.8 Quattro and a ripped CV boot on front left and I can hear slight clicking on hard turns. Should I:

1) Replace ripped boot
2) Replace both front boots
3) Replace the front left half-axle
4) Replace both front half-axles

It's got 93,000 miles on it and no work has been done on the axles/CV. Where would you recommend I get the parts?

You should replace the CV and boot. If it's clicking then it's bad. Inspect the other side and if it's still good then don't replace it yet. When it does tear, replace the boot and clean it out and apply all new grease. If you let it go too long, you'll need to replace both.

Do not replace the axle. The remanufactured parts have an issue that you often do not get the right part... they vary a little between years and such. They can be so close to not seem wrong but off just enough to give you headaches.

Would replacing the CV Joint have similar issues as re-manufactured axles?

No - the mismanufacturing was in the length of the axle shaft. Rebuilding the joint on your existing axle is the best plan. No worries about fitment that way.
