Default safe boost

Hello and thanks in advance. I've searched around and came up with very little solid info, but I'm curious as to what I can safely run the boost in my basically stock 97 A4 w/ airbox mod, K&N drop in air filter, MBC. I've heard they can handle around 15-17psi, but not agood idea without a chip.
Again, thanks for the help

On a 97-99.5 A4, you shouldnt increase boost w/o a chip. After that, 20-22psi is fine

if you had a MAP sensor, that would be true, but since you don't you have to get a chip.
