Default Shocks or Struts?

Hey guys,

I just picked up a 99 A4 1.8t AWD that's need's a little bit of work. Its going need shocks/struts. My friend going to give me the fronts of his s4 b5 cuz he's upgrading to coil overs. Will this be ok?

Second, is the rear of this car shocks or struts? I'm in the market for them.

thank you
John

Also, what weight and brand oil do you guys use.

S4 springs are a higher rate than A4 springs because they're carrying a heavier engine. They will mount up, but your car will sit higher than before.

There are some good spring & shock packages out there for around $500 that will ride well and sit you at a reasonable height.

I use Mobil 1 0w40, and my internals are clean and sludge-free after 191,000. Lots of people also use Mobil 1 Diesel Truck 5w40. Local stores (autozone, advance auto, pepboys) have it with some pretty good deals. I just stocked up with a $10 off coupon at autozone.

Enjoy the new ride!

^ Do you think it'll look to weird with the s4 (strut I'm guessing) in the front? I will be ordering the rear's soon, I'm just trying to save money anywhere I can. And free is pretty cheap

is 0w40 what audi recommends? I see Valvoline synthetic on Amazon for $45 bucks for 6 qts.

I would do a little more googling before you make any decisions about suspension. There are many other forums around the internet, like AudiWorld, Audizine, etc, where you can find out a lot of information on the various suspension options.

Personally, I would love to have the S4 suspension on my A4, but I think it's best to have a complete S4 suspension instead of just one or two components.

There are many opinions on which oil is the best. I use Mobil One 0w40, and it works well for me. I'm sure almost any fully synthetic oil will be fine for your needs, as long as you change it every 3,000-5,000 miles.

+1, that does make sense. I may look into that.
