Default Short Shifter for the A4

Looking to buy a short shifter soon is it all the same for the 1.8 and the 2.8, or is there a specific shifter for each application.

cant tell you if they are the same or not, but I can tell you from experience that if you buy a short shifter kit, dont cheap out and buy the ebay one. Spend the extra money on the JHM one or equivalent. I have the ebay one in my car now and its a pile of ****. true, it shortens the shifter height and the throw a little bit, but it doesnt feel smooth and when its in gear theres so much slop in the shifter its almost like youre still in the neutral gate...

Agreed with livinglegend2100... don't waste your money on the ebay short shifter kit. I had one for something like a year, and since it uses the same shifting mechanism as stock it was still quite sloppy.

Maybe 5 months ago I upgraded to the JHM short shifter kit. HUGE difference. Sure it costs more (especially if your car is prefacelift), but the level of satisfaction is much greater.

Though to answer the original question: 1.8T and 2.8 shifters are the same.

EDIT:
Actually, I just realized I still have my old ebay short shifter. If you'd like to buy it, I'll charge you $20 shipped to the continental U.S.

FWIW, I've been quite satisfied with my ebay short shifter. I think I only paid $30 for mine. I've had it for about 2 years now and it works as it should.

Is there a lot of side to side slop? Yes. But I did not expect a rock solid shifter for under $100.

Did it shorten the throw and make my boot and shift **** look super sexy? Without a doubt, money well spent.

With that said, if you can afford the JHM of course just get that. It will be a much better unit. At the time I purchased the ebay shifter I couldn't justify spending the $ on the JHM one.

I'm ready to upgrade to the JHM now though!

My 2 cents.

For the price, the eBay SS is worth the money. If it were more than $30, I would say just spend the extra cash for the JHM trio. Much more well made
