i had the same exact problem, all it turned out to be was that someone not very well versed in putting oil into the fill cap spilt and it flowed down into the spark plug area and pooled there. it then runs down the top of the valve cover and runs off the back onto the exhaust manifold. the best way to clean it up is to steam clean the engine. but if you dont want to do that or have the equipment to do so, then a rag will take care of it.

The only thing is that your valve cover looks rather clean, so i could be wrong at the same time.

Probably your valve cover gasket.

More than likely it's your valve cover gasket, but I have a leaking cam adjuster seal and the smoke from it comes out from there as well.

Run your finger along the valve cover seam to check for a leak. They run like $25/side from www.purems.com.

A leaky valve cover gasket really shouldn't cause very noticeable oil loss...it just doesn't come out that fast. I'm almost embarrassed to say how long it has been since my last oil change and my level hasn't changed appreciably. But yes, it does stink and you can smell it in the cabin. I can usually smell it in my car when the A/C is off and I've come to a stop. If your oil level is dropping quickly, that's definitely a problem worth investigating.

Remember, you need two sets of gaskets.

step 1: spray down with engine degreaser and a pressure washer.
step 2: montitor the side of your engine every day with a flash light
step 3: you find the start of the leak, WIN!!!!!
