Snow tires worth it?
Yeah I have blow all the spiders and miscelaneous corpses out of mine whenever a change is in order. I just put them on a pallet and stick them in a barn and pick them up with a bobcat when its time.
With the goodyear F1 a/s I have no need for snow tires. The winters aren't that bad nowadays so unless you're staying up north theres really no need. Just get a set of really good all seasons.

I don't understand the winter tire thing. Where do you have to be the three days per year (or less) when the roads are so bad that you can't get around on all season tires with Quattro? And if you are out there and everyone else is stuck, you ain't goin' nowhere anyway. If you want to offroad get a beat up Bronco. Maybe in Germany where I've ridden with a local in his A6 going wide open in the rain on their interstate highways (autobahns) with special summer tires not somehow suitable for winter. Just an opinion.

i drive up almost 3,000 ft of elevation everyday. and doing it a couple winters on all seasons to doing it this winter on dedicated snow tires was a BIG difference. before i was actually a bit embarassed of the quattro's performance in snow with the A/S's. but his winter (in 2 foot snow storm after another, after another, etc...) i was very pleased. never had a problem. and never lost traction once. at least, not unintentionally loosing traction

, I had them during the Denver blizzards of 06-07 and while everyone else was sliding around the road and into each other I was driving through them like slalom gates.

On snow tires in snow, purposefully throw yourself sideways and correct. Perfect.
On performance tires in snow, purposefully throw yourself sideways and have fun hitting that fence. Perfect.
I ran snow tires this year on my stock 17s. Weather looked good, threw on my 18s with my performance tires. Snowed last night and discovered the difference this morning.
But driving sainly, it doesn't seem huge.

I was sitting on I-70 just above morrison and it was snowing so thick that I had to keep getting out to bounce the wipers and I swear it was hard to breathe for the amount of snow that was falling. People were just going nowhere and sliding off the road into the guard rails, it was out of control. We just crawled right through it with no problem.
I'm in lower Fairfield county here snow is not all that bad but where I live it's not always plowed yet so 5 inches of snow and trying to drive up a small hill just to get out.
I can't figure out if this 2000 A4 has a EDL or not.. it's the model with the one peice headlighs and OEM Xenons.
I don't see a ESP button in the car.
