Default Sooo many differentials: objective question...

What are the recommended viscosities and brands and volumes for the following:

2001 A4 B5 1.8t Quattro:

(1) Front Transaxle

(2) Center Differential

(3) Rear Differential

Thanks!!!

Did some research on teh interwebs, volumes are to what I ordered:

(1) Front Transaxle 4qts @ 75W90

(2) Center Differential 2 qts @ 75W90

(3) Rear Differential 2 qts @ 75W90

research is ftw. too much time on my hands on some random island for business = postwhorage.

One additional question: On one of the diy articles, it mentioned the use of a special bit to remove the front transaxel filler and drainplug. Is tihs necessary on the 2001 models, or can I get by w/ standard tools?

I know for the fuel filter, there is a 12-point torx-style bit that is required.

yes there is a 12 point bit you need for the transaxle. i never used anything but wrenches and a small saw for the fuel filter.

I lol'd

Yeah, that bastard filter seems like it would still be securely fastened even witout that bolt. Crazy vw engineers making things waaay too hard to remove.

#1 and #2 both share the same gear oil. Well I know it does on the Manual transmission.

I just purchased the Audi service manual on CD-ROM. lol feels funny just typing CD-ROM.

Yeah, it's manual. if the rear diff takes a different fluid then I'll have a few exra qts of the 75w90. I'll refer to the service manual when it arrives.

Transmission takes a GL4 rated gear oil while the rear diff takes a GL5. I use Redline MT90 or Motul 300 for my transmission.
