Sparkplug Help (Iridium?)
I need to replace my spark plugs and was wondering what you guys recommend. I was thinking about buying the Iridium ones made by Pulstar (Sparkplugs.com - Application Search Results). I was reading that some people had timing issues with these. Should I just stick to platinum? Which ones are the best?

The best advice I can give is to stick with the factory plugs; Audi didn't opt to use those plugs by accident.

Use some cheap ones... the really only last a couple of oil changes. The 1.8Ts eat spark plugs like a fat kid eats candy on halloween...

the recommended plugs are cheap too. Can't remember the part number, but they're only a couple of bucks...
and it doesn't matter... every 10-15K they should probably be changed, or at least looked at. Maybe it's a more common problem in chipped cars... Speaking of which... gap at .032 if stock, .028 if chipped... |
Thanks everyone. What are the recommend plugs?

Copper ngk will last 2-3 oil changes. I've always changed mine at 2 before they were bad. They are about $2-3 a plug. Platniums will last twice as long at twice the price. Ecstuning sells the correct plugs since they often aren't stocked locally. It's best to buy a bunch of supplies at once and save on shipping.

Pulstars will jack your shit up FYI

Hey Guys,
I have a '98 A4 quattro 2.8L. Had it for a couple years and gone 198000km to 203000km. never had the spark plugs changed and the last recorded time was at 85000km haha. I take it i need new ones?? I have been curious about this as I have been getting 9 - 10.5 litres per 100 km on my usual highway trip. I knew it wasn't going to be good on gas but could spark plugs help this?? or the air filter (last changed at 157000km)?? Any advice would be appreciated, new guy here. Thanks |

Thanks However I just did the conversion and you're getting about 23mpg. Which is not far off from normal. It depends on your driving habits, I'm not easy on the gas and I get about 22-25. If you do mostly freeway miles and you baby the car it should be a bit higher than that, but not by much. Edit: I skipped over the part where you say what your car actually is. :D I'm not sure what the average mpg (or L/km) is for the 2.8. I'll wait for one of the others to chime in there. |
