Question Starter Compatibility

Hi all,

I need to replace my starter on my '97 A4 Avant ACK 30V V6.

The problem I have is that there seems to be more than one option available to me because my VIN falls in a "grey" area.

VIN = wauzzz8dzva083765

According to ETKA I should be using either 078911023X or 078911023

Are these starters compatible with the spare 078911023D that I have?

What is the difference?

Thank you in advance.

Eben

well look at your vin...

WAUZZZ 8D Z V A 083765

ETKA says that you need the first one (1) if your VIN is 205000 or lower.

you need the (1A) one if your vin is 205001 or higher.

083765 is lower then 205000

Yes I got that part but just wanted to know if the later model starter would fit. Mounting holes seem the same its just the "nose" that has been strengthened.

ETKA makes the distinction for a reason. if they were interchangeable it would be listed as the same part number. no reason to make multiple numbers for the same part. so no they are not the same.
