sounds like your running low on power steering fluid.

Mine does that here and there, doesnt sound like fluid issue, just wacky noise

my steering wheel squeaks bad inside the car. Like its a squeaky door hinge. It gets real annoying when driving with no radio. are there any bearings or points of contact that i can oil to fix this? I dont want to tear the steering wheel apart just to fix teh squeak.. any suggestions?

Clock spring.

Any updates on this. I have same annoying noise which seems to be getting progressively worse. Sounds like a screaching door or balloon on balloon creaking everytime I turn the wheel left or right. Just had power steering fluid flushed and replaced less then a month ago so I doubt it is that.

It could be the steering rack. Let's hope I'm wrong,
as it is expensive.

If it's coming from around the column, it's likely the clockspring behind the steering wheel. If it's coming from outside the car, it's more likely to be ball joints or tie-rods.

Rev the car to about 3500 RPM and turn the steering wheel back and forth, holding it at each lock for about 10 seconds. Repeat this process several times. If this seems to eliminate the noise, you may have dry seals in the steering rack.

More likely, however, unless you are having issues with sloppy, unresponsive steering, it isn't the rack.

When the steering rack is about to blow a seal, steering
remains good near the center. It makes noise when the wheel
is turned near lock.

I have a 2006 A6 with the same screeching noise, I have had the power steering pump replaced and it was fine for a couple of day and back to this, sounds like worn window wipers on dry glass, very annoying, seems to be a popular problem , any ideas on how to sort it, many thanks
