Default Swapping gauge clusters between b5s

So I have a 97 2.8, with the LCD screen in the cluster. I'm looking at a 98 2.8, but it doesn't have the LCD in the cluster. Basically, what would it take to swap it? I know I'd have to change over the stalk. But would the cluster be compatible or would I have to use VAG COM?

Not at all compatible. 96-97 clusters use two 26 pin plugs, 98-99.5 use two 32 pin plugs, 2000-01.5 use yet another style of the 32 pin plugs. Why do you want to switch clusters? I have a spare 97 cluster w/LCD sitting around.
