Switchblade key

When I got my Audi the guy gave me the switchblade key, but it was broken. So ive just been useing the spare for the about 7 months ive had the car and I really want to get the switchblade one up and workin. Does anyone know about how much itll cost to get one cut and everything at the dealership? Normaly I would just buy one of the keys from online and get it cut but nowhere around me can cut a key like that, they say the machine is too expensive.

Are you sure the batteries in the switchblade didnt go out? $8.99 at Radio Shack for 2 CR1620 watch batteries. IMO if you already have a switchbalde key I would try new batteries first.

Good call. Hadn't thought of that, really - when he said "broken" I immediately pictured the actual blade of the key in half. If it's just the remote part that's "broken" I'd definitely start by trying new batteries.

Yeah the guy who sold me the car had actually broken the key from the remote. So its pretty much useless.

Hi forum, I actually have a whole remote plus the top part where the key normally goes. A friend told me his cousin had totaled his car and he gave me the the 2 button remote and the top piece that has the audi logo on it. Only problem is he took out the key itself which according to him, is attached to the push button that makes the key swivel out like a switchblade.

My problem is that I have been searching for switchblade blanks but they all are the actual blank minus the part that has the metal button that would normally go into the remote.

Can you guys confirm if there are two types of keys? One being the long part that can be removed from the button and another including the button?

Yeah. I got one from the dealer a couple of months ago. it came two pieces.. the transponder part and the flip key part. I think it was around 45 dollars for the key part..
It was like 140 bux total with tax for the whole setup... then like a half hour later my co-worker calls me and tells me he found my key in the back seat of his truck.. F my Life
