Default Thinking about doing a custom exhaust setup

I was thinking of what would be the most cost effective way to get the sound that I want. I have to admit that I like how srt4's sound even though I'd never think about buying one. I want to replicate that "gargle" and popping sound that they make. I've heard of maybe just increasing the size of the mid-pipe and putting on a high flow resonator (glass pack) might do the trick while leaving on the stock muffler. I tried looking on youtube for an a4 with this setup and no luck. Has anyone tried something like this before? The thing is that I don't want it loud, but I want it to sound aggressive. A lot of people recommend getting that one magnaflow muffler, but I can't see myself spending over $200 just for a muffler. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.

Most of the SRT's I've seen are actually LOUD.
In which, I'd say you'll need to run a test pipe and bigger exhaust to mimic the sound.

Here's a comparison of each sound. It's on a B7 but it should sorta help you decide.

I believe SRT4s do not have mufflers stock. They just have the cat and two resonators. That may be why they sound so different.

I'm running a TT high flow cat, to a full 2.5" custom setup. There is a magnaflow 14816 at the rear and no resonators. Sounds fantastic!

I'm doing ECS testpipe, 2.5 all the way back to magnaflow 14815 muffler.

I live in 1 of only 5 counties out of 88 in Ohio that have emissions test or I'd have a test pipe already!
