A compression test is fine. I dont know the answer to the engine swap, but a lot of people have that same question so just search around the forum.

Mikekey, I double checked, your tb and wp should be done between 60k-80k miles. As the cars get older it's better to do it closer to 60k. Even it you have to get it done at a shop for $1000, it's still cheaper than replacing the head if it breaks.

OP: What's the status of your car?

The car is as it was a few days ago, kinda got frustrated and afraid I'd hurt some body panels or glass. I'm not sure what to do from here other than determining the status of my head. Pretty sure I'll need a new one. Anybody have any wisdom on where I might obtain new heads without getting raped?

I bought my car 3 months ago and the previous owner bought and installed an engine from the junkyard with 69k it now has 85k and he has no idea if it was replaced before the install. Thats what scares me. It runs like a champ but you never know.

TB @ 60k. 70k tops. NOT 80k.

No, unlikely, there is a possibility that they can break around 70k, so thats why people change them then, but if it snaps its generally later.
