Tire Stretching Help!?
 

so i just got some rims 7.5j x 17 et 45 and im wondering what tires should i get? i wanna stretch em out to give it that stretch look but not sure what size tires i need.... the stock tire size for these rims are 235/45/R17 but i was thinking maybe a 215/50/R17?? let me know what your suggestions are. thanks

50 sidewall will not stretch. With 7.5 wide, your best bet is going 205/45 and you'll get minor stretch. If you wanna go smaller, 205/40 will stretch better than 205/45.

Just remember, generally the cheaper the tires, the more they stretch.

Most people with 17s run 224/45/17 to match the stock tire diameter (myself included).

Why do you want to stretch? Usually guys only stretch tires because they are low and have high offset on their wheels, and thus need to stretch tires in order to "tuck" the tire under the fender.

IMO it would look pretty bad to stretch tires on a car your height (my car is the same height as yours). But if you really wanted that look, the widest you'd want to go is probably 205, and you shouldn't have too much sidewall, so maybe a 40 or 45.

generally stretching is done to accommodate low offset wheels that rub. I had to run stretched tires on my Rx7 to accomplish just that. but there are minimal performance gains with stretched tires. Personally i dont care for the look, and its easier to fuck up your wheels because theres no tire to protect the lip once you put stretched tires on. But to each is own.

Yeah, like everyone else have said stretched tires are usually needed when you are low and want to sit flush/poke.

If you plan on keeping the car on the height it's at right now, I wouldn't suggest doing it as I'd think it will look off.

alright thanks for all the solid info... when i bought the rim i put it on my rear wheel (just for a test fit) and the inner lip of the rim was really close to my control arm... should i be worried? this is why i was asking about tire stretching... does any of you know if these rims 7.5j x 17'' will rub? if so how big of a spacer do i need?

17 x 7.5 is nothing. What's the offset (ET) of the wheel? It should be 48 or less to fit properly without spacers.

the offset is 45... i was just kinda worried thats all haha... because when i put just the rim on the rear it was literally like half an inch from touching the control arm... and i was worried about hitting bumps and stuff thats all :p so does 215/45/R17 sound like a good tire size? these lo profile tires are so expensive :p

215/45/17 would be fine and would probably be perfect.

In the rear, the wheel gets real close to the upright, but you need to remember that the upright moves with the wheel on bumps, so minimal clearance is okay.
